David Sidoo Powers Future Champions: Air Raid Academy U12 Wins Big at Battle at the Border
VANCOUVER, BC, April 25, 2025 — A powerful new chapter in Canadian youth football was written this past weekend, as the Air Raid Academy U12 team, sponsored by Vancouver philanthropist and former CFL standout David Sidoo, claimed the championship title at the first-ever Battle at the Border Tournament.
This groundbreaking tournament marked the first time elite youth football teams from both Canada and the United States faced off in Vancouver—creating a platform for young athletes to showcase their talent on a bigger stage. And thanks to David Sidoo, every member of the Air Raid Academy team had the opportunity to compete, regardless of financial constraints.
“Football gave me a future when I was a kid,” said David Sidoo. “Now it’s my mission to give that same chance to the next generation—because one moment on the field can change a young life forever.”
A Championship Fueled by Purpose
The Air Raid Academy U12 team stormed through the competition, earning their title with heart, hustle, and undeniable skill. But behind their victory was something even stronger: opportunity. With Sidoo covering all tournament entry fees for the team, these young athletes were able to focus on the game—not the financial burden.
“This win is a testament to what can happen when kids are supported and believed in,” added Sidoo. “It’s not just about a trophy. It’s about creating futures.”
A former CFL player and the first South Asian to be drafted into the league, David Sidoo knows firsthand what sport can do for a young person’s life. Through the Sidoo Family Giving Foundation, he’s spent over two decades helping youth across Canada access sports, education, and mentorship opportunities they may not otherwise have.
Setting the Stage for a New Era in Youth Football
The Battle at the Border Tournament drew teams from across Western Canada and the Pacific Northwest, setting a new benchmark for youth football in British Columbia. For many players, it was their first chance to compete on an international level—and Air Raid Academy’s performance showed what Canadian talent can do with the right backing.
Organizers are already preparing for next year’s event, aiming to grow the tournament into a staple for youth football across North America. With champions like Air Raid Academy leading the way—and supporters like David Sidoo backing them—BC is poised to become a hub for high-level youth sport.
